Develop the knowledge and confidence to support decision-making, protect individual rights and apply the principles of the Mental Capacity Act through practical, face-to-face training.
About This Course
Our Mental Capacity Act, DoLS and LPS training helps learners understand the legal and ethical responsibilities involved in supporting people who may lack capacity to make specific decisions.
First, our experienced trainers introduce the five statutory principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. They explain how these principles promote choice, independence and person-centred care.
Next, learners explore capacity assessments, best interests decisions and the importance of choosing the least restrictive options.
The course also examines the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), the changes introduced by the Supreme Court in 2026 and the proposed Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS).
In addition, practical scenarios help learners understand how to protect individual rights while providing safe, lawful and respectful support.
This course suits care workers, healthcare professionals, support staff, senior carers and managers who support individuals with decision-making or mental capacity concerns.
It is particularly relevant to staff responsible for care planning, best interests decisions and recognising potential deprivations of liberty.
